Grainger VIP Impact Report
Tutoring-by-Request (TBR) TBR offers one-on-one tutoring for some of our most vulnerable students. We saw 93 students using TBR for 20,190 hours over the course of the year. The number of hours used is double that of last year, though fewer students requested tutoring. We have opened up TBR to first-year students who are at risk of not progressing into their major, in the hope that they will learn about the resources the ULC offers and progress into their major. Additionally, as they become aware of the services, we hope they will use the other services the ULC provides. Study Interest Groups (SIGs) Students are matched with peers who have at least one course in common with them. The focus is to pair those who share math, chemistry, and engineering courses. Underrepresented students in the College of Engineering continue to participate at a higher rate than the majority of students. FINANCIAL UPDATE The ULC staff salary expenditures increased because we hired a program director to implement the BEST program, and the ULC is fully staffed with the ULC director and manager in place. The allocation for general supplies increased because the BEST program had costs associated with it.
