The Rath Foundation - An Enduring Legacy at UW-Madison

Anonymous '12, MD'16 Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Attending UW–Madison was a dream come true thanks to the Rath scholarship: summer evenings at the Terrace to the Game Day experience, a beautiful campus, amazing people all around (students, faculty, staff), and a great education. I could not have hoped for a more fulfilling university experience. Currently, I am a physician practicing in Wisconsin and have the honor of helping fellow Wisconsinites on a daily basis. What I do is both rewarding and intellectually stimulating. I am certain I wouldn't be in the same mind-set or position if it weren’t for the Rath Foundation’s generous support. My wife and I have a recurring Friday night event called “Give Back Friday.” Every Friday we donate to an organization or cause that we support. I'm sure I'm not the only Rath Scholar who does something like this, and so the Rath Foundation is likely the origin domino in a large chain of dominoes dedicated to paying it forward. Their generosity does not stop with the students they directly support. Education has become more and more expensive. The fields we study have become more and more complex. To even scratch the surface of learning everything that needs to be learned, and to grow as much as possible while a student, requires an exceptional amount of time and dedication which can be drained by outside stressors, including financial ones. Scholarships help students focus on learning and growth so that they can eventually use their education to touch lives beyond the UW campus. In essence, these scholarships are large pillars helping support the Wisconsin Idea. Thank you for your support and generosity. You have changed so many lives. Not just the direct recipients of your scholarships, but also likely downstream individuals (patients, colleagues, families, etc.). Words cannot express the gratitude I have for the scholarship.
