The Rath Foundation - An Enduring Legacy at UW-Madison

The UW campus is so vibrant and alive with energy. It is the perfect blend of nature and campus, and the city feels like a village in which all of the students can gather and meet each other and members of the Madison community. It is through these interactions that I have been able to create my favorite memories. The Rath scholarship has changed my life. The financial security that it has provided has allowed me to explore many interests and make the most of my time here at Madison. I have been able to take classes across a wide variety of disciplines and gain an appreciation for the L&S way. The opportunities that I have been able to take advantage of are a direct result of the Rath scholarship, which has allowed me to explore, learn, and forge connections without the barrier of financial burdens. I have been able to take a wide range of classes at UW–Madison and these classes have shaped my way of thinking and exposed me to ideas I would have never had access to otherwise. Thanks to this education, I have been able to take part in different undergraduate research projects each year, make scientific discoveries in lab, join several clubs on campus, develop lifelong friendships, and spend my free time enjoying the beautiful isthmus. I am currently doing research for the data & analytics branch of the UW Population Health Institute, developing a measure of maternal health. This research has been made possible because of the education that the UW has provided me with. I cannot wait for the learning that will take place in the next two years. I have been lucky enough to assistance-teach for the summer camp that first introduced me to UW–Madison's campus in middle school. Being an educational assistant for Badger Precollege reminded me of the joy of being in a new city, away from home for the first time, and the little niches that make UW–Madison so precious to me. It brought a nostalgia and sense of gratitude for the city, as there is something quite magical about having the lakes, capitol, and campus surrounding each other. I am currently working at the new Bakke recreation center as a climbing wall attendant, and it makes me so happy to help and see community members partaking in joyful movement. UW–Madison facilitates healthy living, and I have met
